Abraham Lincoln Teachers Recognized by Garlic Jim's!

Everett, WA (June 16, 2011) – The Simi Valley Garlic Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza is pleased to announce the local winners of a pizza party to celebrate National Pizza Party Day. Mrs. Susan Hise and Mrs. Julie Kirby are co-teachers of a third grade class at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Simi Valley. They and their class were the recipients of a pizza party celebrating both National Pizza Party Day and the end of the school year. The teachers were nominated by Andrea, a parent who has a son in the class. Andrea said, “They do an excellent job on coordinating their efforts and making a uniform curriculum so the kids do not suffer from having different teachers. They make the class educational, fun, and exciting.” Bryan Baker, local owner of the Simi Valley Garlic Jim’s delivered the pizzas to the classroom and commented, “I am so pleased to be honoring Mrs. Hise and Mrs. Kirby. Donating an end-of-the-year pizza party to such outstanding educators is a small gesture that honors their work with our community’s children. As Andrea said, it’s important that school be fun and exciting!”

Garlic Jim’s President and CEO, Dwayne Northrop, is excited about the response to National Pizza Party Day. “I love the fact that our customers are so passionate about their children’s teachers. I’ve been reading the teacher nominations they’ve contributed and they’re amazing. There are so many people who aren’t being recognized for their contributions to our communities. It’s exciting that Garlic Jim’s can honor some teachers in even a small way for their work with the children of our customers.” National Pizza Party Day is listed in Chase’s Book of Events and is an opportunity to celebrate pizza and its importance in our national culture. Garlic Jim’s uses National Pizza Party Day to honor deserving teachers in the communities where our stores are located. National Pizza Party Day is held the third Friday of May every year. The winning parties do not need to be held on this day. Instead we give the winning teachers flexibility to hold their parties at times most convenient to the schedules of their classrooms.

*Pizza was consumed 30 minutes after the school day with parent permission in accordance with our district Wellness Policy.

6th Grade Culmination a Huge Success!

On Friday, June 10, 2011 Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in Simi Valley ended a tremendous 2010-2011 school year with our 6th grade Culmination, Kindergarten Promotion, and 5th Grade Certificate Ceremony.

Here is a summary of some of the sentiments Principal Montaine shared with the class of 2011 !

…6th graders, almost 7th graders, this is your day.  You have made it on the road to success…  As you move on to middle school you will hear some familiar things like “Safety, Respect, and be asked to Learn New Things”  There will also be some different things like new teachers and new friends…  I want to give you some advice to help you when you will find yourself in a situation and you are not sure what to do.  First, if there is something you are wondering about or want to know more about. Read. That’s what I do.  I do a lot of reading.  You can start over the summer.  Read a lot. And then read some more.  Second, get some help by asking a trusted adult for some advice.  That’s how you stay on the road to success.  Read, and ask for help when you need it.  So, I’m going to read a little bit to you now from the book “Whoever You Are” by Mem Fox and hope that you will want to find this book in the library and read it for yourself… as you meet new teachers and new friends remember “inside, they are just like you.” … you are moving on with Lincoln’s Hope, Lincoln’s Love, and Lincoln’s Best Wishes…

All were impressed with the hard work and creative decorating skills of our parent volunteers who took on the job of sprucing up our cafeteria.  Culminating sixth graders received certificates of completion.  Some students received additional recognition for academic excellence, and one of our exemplary students was presented the “Hope of America” award by the Kiwanis.  Three former Lincoln students received PTA scholarships to help them on the “Road to Success” as they graduate from high school.  Fifth graders moving on to 6th grade middle school received certificates for promotion.  A number of fifth grade students also received certificates for academic excellence, and many received physical fitness achievement certificates.

On the other side of our campus Kindergarten students performed their end of year program which included singing and dancing to patriotic numbers and oldies but goodies like “Ballin’ the Jack”.

Parents beamed, students beamed and Mrs. Montaine could be heard saying, “today was practically perfect in every way !”.
